SUMMARY/SCOPE:

The Holland School of Science and Mathematics invites candidates to apply to join a growing area of the university. The University is expanding heavily in STEM initiatives including engineering, technology, and health care. The Computer Science department will be an integral part of this growth.  The department has a solid student group with near 100% placement for graduates while also supporting other areas such as cybersecurity.

The CS department is looking for a non-tenure track faculty member to teach undergraduate courses. The candidate must possess a master’s degree in computer science or related field with preference given to those with a Ph.D. The teaching load is 12 credits per semester with summer teaching possible with additional compensation. The CS department teaches topics in programming, database, networking, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, UI/UX, system administration, and web development. While the primary focus is imparting knowledge in the classroom, it is the goal of the CS department to develop students into productive community members; therefore, experience outside the classroom of mentoring and discipling is also expected.

SUMMARY/SCOPE:

The Department of Engineering at Hardin-Simmons University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Preferred applicants should have an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or an appropriate closely related discipline. Candidates will be considered with experience in all areas of mechanical engineering but those with experience and interests cutting across multiple disciplines are particularly encouraged to apply.

We seek a creative and collegial faculty member committed to excellence in student-centered, innovative undergraduate teaching. Preferred applicants should either have documented teaching experience or be familiar with curriculum design, implementation of active learning strategies, and assessment of student learning. The successful candidate is desired to be dedicated teacher, embrace cross-disciplinary collaboration, and have a versatile teaching portfolio suitable for a broad spectrum of courses.

The standard teaching load for faculty is 12 hours per semester, with the possibility of teaching during the summer terms for additional compensation. The University is significantly expanding its STEM research portfolio and is keenly interested in faculty that can aid in this venture. Unique research opportunities already exist within the department and participation and expansion of these endeavors will be available and fostered and can offset teaching load where relevant.  Faculty members are expected to advise students academically, to serve on departmental and university committees, to demonstrate cooperation and collaboration with colleagues inside and outside of the department, to support the missions of the Engineering Department and Hardin-Simmons University, and to perform other duties consistent with the faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.

The Department of Engineering at Hardin-Simmons is newly created and started the Fall of 2023 with record enrollment. The program home is in Abilene Hall, a central and historic center of campus, but newly and entirely renovated to house engineering. The facility is being supported by a full array of cutting-edge lab, research, and academic equipment designed to provide the pinnacle educational experience for the engineers of today and tomorrow. SUMMARY/SCOPE:

The Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts (CAPCoLA) at Hardin-Simmons University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. The person hired for this position will serve as the Director of Ministry and Guidance. This person in this role will also step into the role of Associate Dean of the Logsdon School of Theology in June 2024, with responsibility for oversight of the academic programs and processes within the School. He/She will report directly to the CAPCoLA Dean. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree from an ATS-accredited seminary or school of theology and have extensive involvement in the Baptist tradition. The person in this position will be expected to teach 18 credit hours (i.e., six, 3-credit courses) each year and serve as a mentor for Logsdon faculty. He/She will meet with Baptist pastors in Abilene and surrounding communities to discuss their needs and the development of partnerships related to providing internships for HSU students in their churches. He/She will be expected to work with pastors in Abilene and the surrounding communities to foster a relationship that will allow integration of local churches into the planning of events for Logsdon and HSU chapel. He/She will work with Logsdon faculty to develop a curriculum to equip students for ministry in the twenty-first century and to prepare them for advanced study in seminaries and graduate schools. Importantly, he/she will be expected to develop and map out a vision for the 5, 10, and 20-year growth and development of curriculum and programming for students, faculty, and staff in Logsdon.

SUMMARY/SCOPE:

SLI (Student Learning Initiative) Instructors will teach SLI courses and engage in weekly meetings with colleagues, students and Peer Academic Coaches. SLI Instructors are the backbone of Hardin-Simmons University’s Strategic Learning Initiative, which will serve 150 first-time freshmen (FTF) students at risk of academic failure each semester. The initiative is designed to help FTF students develop the academic skills to successfully transition from high school to college and to help sophomores, juniors, and seniors who fail to maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0. The Initiative will consist of a one credit-hour course designed to help these students develop proven learning strategies and apply them to other courses to achieve academic success. SLI students will also engage in weekly individual meetings with an assigned SLI Instructor or Peer Academic Coach to ensure the completion of all academic responsibilities and to support students as they navigate college-life challenges.
